As a senior software engineer, Mitchell is responsible for developing our cloud services and web applications. Building robust, innovative technology drew him to our talented team. With a passion for creating best-in-class solutions, he takes great satisfaction in knowing that his efforts are improving health outcomes for HealthIO program members. 

Mitchell’s experience in healthcare technology began at Mortara Instrument (later acquired by Hillrom). Most recently, he worked in a tech management role with an ECG core lab.

Mitchell graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a BS in Computer Science.

Mitchell’s commitment to health and wellness extends beyond his work. When he’s off the clock, he and his wife like to roll up their sleeves on home improvement projects and tending to their large garden. As a sportsman, Mitchell enjoys hunting, fishing, and the great outdoors.

As a member of our Data Science and Analytics team, Nick’s role is to extract raw data from multiple sources and make it usable for analysis. He is responsible for building data pipelines, analytics tools, and maintaining our data infrastructure. Nick was excited to bring his talent to Milliman HealthIO and work toward a positive shake-up of the healthcare industry. Given the high cost of care for chronic conditions, he appreciates knowing that his efforts are helping reduce expenses while improving health outcomes.

Before joining us, Nick was a data engineer with FIS, configuring pipelines for both internal and external data sources. Prior to that, he worked at Northwestern Mutual as a software engineering intern.Nick earned his BS in Computer Science and Statistics from University of Wisconsin-Madison.

On weekends and during his downtime, Nick is involved in a variety of activities. He is learning to speak Spanish and Slovene. He enjoys simulated racing, real mountain biking and a good brewery tour for fun. An avid sports fan, you can find him cheering on the Bucks, Brewers, Badgers, and Packers depending on the season.

As digital marketing manager, Nicole Van Peursem is responsible for delivering excellence across our digital communications. She focuses on brand building, messaging, and demand generation activities. Joining our team was a perfect fit for Nicole, who eagerly embraced the challenge of launching a new product in the competitive world of digital health by leveraging Milliman’s respected brand.

Prior to joining the Milliman HealthIO team, Nicole worked for Sikich LLP, where she managed multiple projects and helped clients bring their brand and messaging into strategic alignment.
Previously, she was senior marketing manager with Vogel Consulting Group, developing their marketing communications strategy. She also acted as a liaison with industry affiliation groups and influential thought leaders in the family office space. Her first exposure to professional services marketing was with Arthur Andersen LLP. Nicole began her career with Harley-Davidson Motor Company, eventually moving to Harley-Davidson Financial Services, where she brought her talents to dealership programs, product management, and new business development.

Nicole earned her BA from University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her volunteer work includes mentoring high school students through the LAUNCH Program, by encouraging their creativity in business-related projects.

During her downtime, you can find Nicole at the gym perfecting her yoga practice. She firmly believes that the best healthcare starts with good nutrition, regular movement, and a positive mindset.

For members of the HealthIO program who may need extra encouragement, Katie is there to help. As a certified health coach, Katie’s role is to walk alongside people in their health journey. She provides guidance, support, and education. Katie’s philosophy of coaching is rooted in cura personalis, or “care for the whole person.” She joined Milliman HealthIO thanks in part to the strong sense of common purpose we have in moving healthcare towards prevention and overall wellness.

Katie began her career at the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee as a senior wellness coordinator. She then took on successive roles as a fitness trainer, most recently with BTE, a provider of physical therapy and rehabilitation equipment.

Katie is a graduate of Marquette University, where she earned her BS in Exercise Physiology. She has received personal trainer certification from the American Council on Exercise (ACE Fitness). Additionally, she holds certifications in First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Automatic External Defibrillation from the American Heart Association. Katie has also earned an Occupational Safety and Health Administration certification.

Outside of the office, Katie loves to measure, mix, and get messy in the kitchen. A talented home baker, she can be found crafting dozens of exquisite wedding cakes each year.

Carrie Taylor

Business Analyst

In her role as Business Analyst, Carrie Taylor is the bridge between our technology team and business team. She is a master communicator, with deep experience in multiple domains, including programming, documentation, project management, and product ownership. Carrie was drawn to Milliman HealthIO thanks to our data-driven approach to healthcare. She is passionate about using data to inform better decisions and encouraged that our platform helps our clients and program members to achieve that goal.

Before joining our team, Carrie spent nearly 30 years with Northwestern Mutual. She began her career as a mainframe programmer and systems analyst with strong project management skills. She then shifted her focus and became a business analyst and eventually the product owner for an internal application. In her final role with Northwestern Mutual, she served as a senior business analyst, where she ensured compliance with regulatory requirements. 

Carrie graduated with a BA in Journalism and Advertising from University of Wisconsin-Madison. She earned her Master’s in Management Information Systems from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Outside of work, Carrie is always on the go with her family. From tennis to hiking and golfing to biking, she is grateful for their active lifestyle. Some of her favorite places to visit include Door County, Wisconsin and the family cottage in Northern Ontario. During football season, Carrie heads to Madison to cheer on the Badgers with fellow Wisconsin fans.

Heading up our user experience (UX) efforts, Scott Robinson brings more than 30 years of design talent to Milliman HealthIO. He is responsible for ensuring the interactions between our product and end-users are intuitive, seamless, accessible, and satisfying.

Scott’s attention to detail and understanding of consumer behavior makes him a tireless advocate for members of the HealthIO program. He takes great pride in using his talents to help people establish and maintain healthy habits using our digital health app and personalized portal. Scott is excited to be a part of our mission to move away from the healthcare industry paradigm (treatment after illness) toward preventive health.

Before joining our team, Scott has brought his UX skills to several high profile healthcare companies, including GE Healthcare and Marquette Electronics. His design career has included developing hardware and software to fight hypertension and diabetes.

Scott earned his degree from The Ohio State University and additionally studied at Columbus College of Art & Design. He is Six Sigma certified. 

During his downtime, Scott enjoys volunteering for the Clintonville Community Resources Center. He is also pursuing his goal to see all the greatest classic rock bands (and their original members!) perform live.

As product manager, Smitha is committed to creating the best possible experience for our clients. She leverages her business expertise to help drive product ideation and vision, while converting that vision into deliverable outcomes for the technology team. As a thought leader in her product area, she helps drive innovation and ensures that each release and successive update of the Milliman HealthIO product is designed to delight. She finds it truly gratifying to hear the feedback of our program participants who share how HealthIO has changed their lives for the better.

Smitha began her career as a business analyst with BioEnterprise, where she developed commercialization plans and conducted business analyses for early stage healthcare start-ups.

She then went on to work as a product manager for Quality Electrodynamics and was heavily involved in market research, creating the go-to-market strategy, and overseeing marketing content and website development. Prior to joining Milliman HealthIO, Smitha was a product manager for GC America, developing strategic marketing plans and managing the lifecycle and performance of a core product suite generating several million in revenue.

Smitha graduated from M.S Ramaiah Institute of Technology with her Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Biotechnology. She then earned her Master’s in Entrepreneurial Biotechnology from Case Western Reserve University. Additionally, Smitha holds certifications in machine learning, strategic management, marketing and competitive strategy.

Smitha’s gift for research and analysis isn’t limited to the workplace. Away from the office, this self-proclaimed coffee afficionado enjoys experimenting with different coffee beans, blends, and brewing styles. She also loves to get outside and explore national and state parks with her family. And most meaningful of all, Smitha is an enthusiastic mother, taking delight in every age and stage of life with her preschooler.

An early member of the Milliman HealthIO team, Amelia brings enthusiasm and empathy to her role as customer success manager. Her responsibilities include onboarding members to the HealthIO program and providing ongoing support to empower their health journeys.

With more than a decade of healthcare experience, Amelia is energized by our mission to move away from “sick care” toward a model focused on prevention and early intervention. She began her career with CentraCare Health and has held positions in health information management with Waukesha County, Wisconsin, and Aurora Health Care.

Amelia is a Registered Health Information Technician, accredited through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). She earned her AA in Health Information/Medical Records Technology through the Waukesha County Technical College. She is currently completing her BS, Healthcare Management through Columbia College.

In her downtime, Amelia pursues a variety of interests, including weightlifting, biking, and ice fishing. She enjoys gardening and cooking as well. Listen closely and you may even hear her singing show tunes—a nod to her love for theatre and performance.

As a digital health coach, Katie’s work is essential to helping members of the HealthIO program succeed. With a focus on building health literacy, Katie supports members of the HealthIO program through group settings and one-on-one interactions. Her guidance empowers members to develop health strategies that fit into their lives and improve their overall wellbeing.

Katie jumped at the opportunity to join our team, because she believes in using data-driven evidence to support lifestyle change. Using the data gathered by the HealthIO program, Katie helps members make the connection between their behavior and their health outcomes.

Katie began her career as a sales and service specialist for Bank of America before pivoting to the health and wellness industry. She has held positions as a personal trainer, fitness instructor, and nutrition coach at Rock Lake Activity Center and the Wisconsin Athletic Club.

Katie attended Duke University on an athletic scholarship, rowing on the varsity team for four years. She earned her BA in English Literature and Philosophy from Duke. She is ACE certified in personal training and pre-and post-natal fitness. Additionally, she is an ISSA-certified nutrition coach.

Katie is a proud mom of four children and two dogs that keep her and her husband busy. When she’s not at work, Katie loves being on the water. She still rows in a single shell when possible, although she also enjoys kayaking and waterskiing. A native of Arizona, Katie has embraced winter sports to get through Wisconsin’s coldest season.

A veteran of SaaS and digital technology consulting firms, Garett has a passion for consultative sales. He is responsible for introducing the Milliman HealthIO solution to prospective customers, especially self-insured employers looking for ways to improve employee health while reducing healthcare costs.

Joining Milliman HealthIO was a perfect fit for Garett, who approaches business relationships with a collaborative, problem-solving style. Milliman’s data capabilities plus the HealthIO platform ensures that he can help customers successfully address their toughest business challenges.

Garett’s previous work includes sales roles with high growth technology companies, including software service providers Zywave and AkitaBox.

Garett earned his BS in Business from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. As a proponent of good health, he spends his free time outdoors. Summers are for biking, fishing, and golf. Winters bring weekend outings to local ski hills. And no matter the season, you can find Garett playing with his dog, Murray.
